At send off Saturday the pilot who flew in an F15 didn't stay for lunch because he wanted to get back home to be with his wife and new 2 month old son. He and his wife were high school sweethearts who broke up before he left to go to USAFA (University of Science And Fine Arts as he was calling it). They would run into each other from time to time and a few years in, she was the one who took the big leap and transferred to Colorado College. They were married right after he graduated and that was a number of years ago. So .... it does happen, but it seems as if it is an incredibly tough thing to do. GOOD LUCK!

everyone here's practically explained it all.
goin on being a junior at usafa, had experience with and without the whole girlfriend thing, so here it goes I had a girlfriend going into basic at usafa 2 years ago. We'd been dating for over a year, and thought we'd give it a try... Lasted through basic fine, she came out for Parents Weekend, and all was well. As school ramped up, things got too busy for her, and we broke up. Should she have come during Parents Weekend? Absolutely. Like some above have said: the weekend should be about the cadet's happiness, not the parents'. At the same time, you need to be mature and moderate how much time you spend with each of them. Dont let anyone tell you "oh it'll be if it's meant to be" or anythin like that. It'll happen if you want it to happen, and if you do absolutely everything in your power to make it happen. I dunno how serious you are about her, but what i'm tryin to say is that it's absolutely possible to go through USAFA with the same girl/boyfriend. It's all a matter of choice, and how badly you want it. With that said: decide whether or not you want to try. And if you do, light the fires and never look back. |
