Great video! My daughter found, to her horror, she was all alone in the footprints waiting for the next bus. Cadre swooped in...all of them just for her!

Yeah, haha!
But you can see how it's the beginning of training to think and function in the chaos of battle, better than anything we can say!

Just the thought of the footprints and BCT bring back memories. I remember not seeing any pictures of him when people were and thinking, did he even get off the bus?

Yeah I know! I wish I could hear what they're saying to him. And I spotted at least two of my freshman in this video. One is the one trying to say the seven basic responses

Lol. I sort of feel bad for the kid, and sort of think it's hilarious. My sister (class of 2013) said he's a decent kid though, just was a little unlucky.
*note to self: if ever interviewed by local paper, do not say anything that can be used by cadre during BCT* |

Mars boy was kicked out last week. Just remember to keep your cool on I-day. They can yell, and make you walk fast, but since you have blood tests and stuff, they aren't allowed to make you do anything physical. Just don't become the center of attention, if you can avoid it.

Was he kicked out or did he quit? If he was kicked out, what was the reason?

How does that work, you fail at the academy and they let you still become an officer by going through ROTC? Is it a scholarship or do they have to pay for school?

Deanna, this is one of those second-hand, maybe even third-hand gossip statements that need to be taken with the proverbial grain of salt. Don't get the Iron Eagle out yet!
It all depends on how the cadet leaves -- if a cadet resigns they can still go through ROTC or OTS or one of the other officer-accessioning programs. Under certain circumstances, they can even get readmitted. Getting "kicked out" for cause is, of course, different. But merely leaving USAFA is not like a life sentence from ever being in the Air Force in the future. In what we've learned, there are very few instances of 4-digs getting "kicked out" for academics after the first semester. With almost any kind of support, they get a second semester second chance. But, there are instances of cadets who, when confronted with all the consequences (of poor academics in the first semester) they will face in the spring semester, may just choose to resign. Maybe others, who don't know all the circumstances, might say they were kicked out -- but again, we don't know all the facts about this young man's circumstances.

I agree with Raptor Dad - it is VERY DIFFICULT to get 'kicked out' for academics in only your second semester. From what I understand it would be ac pro, restricted from a lot of stuff and EI. But if the cadet WANTED to stay and was working the plan laid out, I think they could stay. But if the cadet didn't WANT it, they could probably ask to leave and be released. Doesn't mean they wouldn't be a successful student somewhere else.
As others have said, there is generally NO STIGMA involved if a kid wants to leave State U and attend a private school or even wants to move from State U to U of State. The Academy is not the right fit for everyone. I wish "Mars boy" and any others who have out-processed much success in their next venture! |

Hi all,
From what I heard, "Mars Boy" left on his own will. He sent out an email to the whole wing thanking 2013 for their kindness. The email shows a picture of him stepping over the Academy as he leaves for other opportunities. Later, Brian

Thanks Brian for your information. The Academy Life is not for everyone, but sometimes people get a little more attention then they wish, want, expect or deserve. God Bless him, he'll be successful where ever he goes.

I have a lot of friends that have been kicked out for academics already. Because my class is so large, people are getting kicked out for academics faster than usual. Some really wanted to be here, and some didn't, those are the facts of life. I'll admit, it isn't always easy showing you want to stay here with grades in the square root club.
Also, Mars Boy was a friend of mine. Once you got to know him, he was a really nice kid and a fun person to be around. I wish him the best and I think he learned a thing or two here before he got kicked out. He will make a great officer and I look forward to serving with him. |
