Reflections on BCT

Funny stories from BCT:
So, one day, the cadre were mad at us. They made us all change into shower gear and stand outside our tents (during 2nd BCT). They looked through our tents for contraband and, after one hour, came out and asked us if we had a schedule. They thought one of our parents had sent us a schedule of what our squadron was doing every day. The funny part is that we didn't have any schedule. The truth is that we share a bathroom with Barbarians, who have each course one...

Letters from BCT #4- Military-ness.

Posted 07-09-2009 at 11:27 PM by J.NordicSkier7
As you are all well aware, attending the US Air Force Academy means joining the military. As a member of the military, you will be expected to March, wear uniforms, keep your bearing, and even clean your room. If you do these things well, your Cadre will issue you a Form 341, which remains on your record until graduation. Unfortunately, Cadre members also give these Forms for negative things like poor bearing, repeated mistakes, etc. To avoid the not so nice Form (which I have so far)my advice...

Letters from BCT #3- Physical Conditioning

Posted 07-09-2009 at 11:05 PM by J.NordicSkier7
I'm sure lots of candidates are currently wondering how they can best prepare for the Physical Rigors of the Academy. My first bit of advise is mental, however. Before you come to the Academy, realize that EVERYONE breaks. Your goal is not to succeed in everything physically, your goal is to keep a positive attitude (without smiling), to persevere after you break, and to help out your classmates who're weaker that you. Every morning but Sunday, we have Physical Conditioning....

Letters from BCT #2- Mail

Posted 07-09-2009 at 10:30 PM by J.NordicSkier7
Hey, all. Just a quick note on mail. Here at the Academy, my flight visits the mailroom about every other day. In the mailroom, we're at ease, which means we can move but we can't talk. The P.O. boxes line the walls and are not easily visible, since they are on the outside of a small room for sorting the mail. If we receive colored envelopes of any kind, we do push-ups. We do push-ups anyways, but no one wants to be named the cause. That is why you dispose of the colored envelopes immediately...

Thank you for the letter

In the mornings, except for Sundays, we do P.T. Every other morning we do either running or strength. On the running days, I hate getting up, but I love being up. When the sun finally rises onto the Air Gardens, which we run around, the whole valley lights up just like a post card. It's the only time we basics are allowed to "gaze", and the view is breathtaking (not a good thing when you're running as fast as you can). Thank you, USAFA Community Parents, for the uplifting...
