Letters from BCT #4- Military-ness.

As you are all well aware, attending the US Air Force Academy means joining the military. As a member of the military, you will be expected to March, wear uniforms, keep your bearing, and even clean your room. If you do these things well, your Cadre will issue you a Form 341, which remains on your record until graduation. Unfortunately, Cadre members also give these Forms for negative things like poor bearing, repeated mistakes, etc. To avoid the not so nice Form (which I have so far)my advice is this:

- Marching- listen carefully to every command and suggestion and make sure you ask if you do not understand how to execute a command.
- Dining Ettequette- when you arrive, you have time to get your room in order. Take advantage of this time to read through dining ettequette in your portfolio.
- Greeting- make sure you know who to greet and how to greet them. Write down your Cadre's names as soon as you learn them, because you will probably forget.
- Uniform- wear your uniform the right way, as listed in your portfolio.
- Bearing- practice not-laughing, no matter what is being said. Many Basics in my Flight get called out for laughing at "inappropriate" times. Practice by filling your mouth with water & trying to make someone else laugh.
- Cleaning- make sure you talk with your classmates, because their rooms need to match yours. Follow the Portfolio exactly and remember, even after one hour, your desk will be dusty again.

Lovin' these. Reminds me of my old days! The water advice has fond memories for me. I was the master in my flight for bearing (though you'd never guess it). I had to do a bearing contest with a classmate, both of us with full mouths of water! I won, which meant my BDU top was soaked in warm water. eww....haha!Posted 07-10-2009 at 12:39 AM by hornetguy
