Just wondering whether there are any major changes in transitioning from 4th degree to 3rd degree. Are there any changes in the deductions from their pay such as barber, laundry, etc.

Yes, there are many changes to their pay, mainly it will get higher because of fewer deductions. Hilay's pay seemed to change a lot throughout the year but has finally settled down now.
Your cadet will have much more freedom this year to leave base on the weekends if they can find a car to borrow. Hilary has been to several concerts, camping trips, ski/snowboarding trips etc. this year. That is probably the biggest change that I have seen.

The biggest change will be the freedom to come and go. There are many less restrictions. And they don't seem to have a problem finding and borrowing a car when they want one.
They will have to pay for their laundry and haircuts now. We gave our Cadet coupons from the laundromat and all he would have to do is take a sack full of dirty clothes to the laundromat and pick them up the next day clean and folded! This saved him a lot of time and money. These were great stocking stuffers and he seemed to enjoy using them! |

Angie, tell us more about the laundry deal...where do you get the coupons?

The freedom is the greatest thing. Our cadet has a GF now in the Springs and she attends UC. He has a place to "hang out" as she has an apartment and it makes a world of difference on their attitude and it seems to help out with their grades also. He gets off campus on weekends and they hang out and since she has a truck, they get to go many different places. Before he met her, he was always able to borrow a car etc., to get around in!
VIVA le freedom!!

Our new C3C is "Jeep sitting" for an upperclassman's 3 week leave! Says he is suppose to keep it clean and full of gas (yeah right - to replace all the gas he is using!).

The cost of the laundry service is taken out of the paycheck for 4º only. We are talking about the cadets that have transitioned from 4º to 3º. The cost of the laundry service will no longer be taken out of their pay so they will see a little more money in their accounts each month.

As I understand it, the cost of the service is taken out of the 4º pay. They can opt not to use it but they still pay for it.

Sorry for the confusion, I copied and pasted the information directly from Cadet Services. As I understand too, their freshman year, this service is done for them and is taken out of their pay as txtwinmom said. (I was a little surprised they mention freshmen also) so, I'm not sure this service is really available for the freshmen. Possibly they won't deduct from their pay if they use these coupons??? I'm really guessing here, so maybe calling them might answer your question.
From sophmore year on, the Cadets can do their laundry any way they want. They can do it themselves, at their sponsor family's, use a public facility or use this service. They will pay for it themselves, it is not taken out of their paycheck. This is what I understand and our son loves not having to use his "own money" for laundry! |
