I have seen mention of "college back up plan" on a few of the SA related pages and have not seen this point mentioned so I thought I would bring it up. This isn't a suggestion while waiting for an appointment, but rather after accepting the appointment and you have reservations and want to have a back up to the appointment.
The college counselor at your local high school often keeps track of each college the student has applied, been accepted, and chooses to attend. After that the student will send out "decline" postcards back to the colleges. College counselors will not turn a blind eye to a student accepting two choices. Some sort of ethics thing. Thus making it impossible to have a "back up plan" to your appointment. I don't think they understand the concern of parents whose kids first choice is a SA and the fact that some kids will NOT make it through BCT (for many reasons) and therefore, left scrambling because they do not have a college to attend in the fall if something in the game plan changes while at BCT.
I guess the point of my message is: If you are going to secure a back up school it might not be in your best interest to share this with the high school college counselor.
