Hello, I am currently a college sophomore, soon to be a freshman again when I head out to Valley Forges SAP program for two years. At the moment, my grades are sub par, but I am changing that with intensive summer classes, and of course Valley Forge. I am soon to be going to the Air Force Reserves, and I plan on using that money to pay for my VF education. I hear that the VF SAP program greatly increases my chances at an Appointment, and I'd like to know if this is true, and what else I can do to have my chances be better.
Both my parents were in the Air Force, and I am very set on doing this. So set, that I won't accept defeat until I reach my 24th birthday, and am no longer eligible for the Academy. I am very much determined to get in, despite a few discrepancies in my past. I feel that I have overcome them, and am more than ready to start learning how to be a leader. |

I cant speak to the SAP process, don't even know what that is....but I do like your acceptance of your past issues, and your resolve to be your best from today forward.
My best team members come from conflicted pasts they have overcome with perseverance..... Don't take lightly the courage you posses to take on this challenge.... I'm proud of you. " If your not moving forward, you are moving backwards" or something like that

Thank you very much. VF has a Service Academy Prep program thats two years long. They have a statistic that 95% of the people that do well in the program go the Academy of their choice. Another question, would they look down on me if I re-took my SAT? I excelled in the English portion, but math has always been my weakness. I think retaking it could give me a much better score.

Retake the SAT & ACT!! They only look at your best scores, and the tests require some practice to do well. Is USAFA the only route you are willing to take? With two years of college under your belt, couldn't you go for an ROTC commission by finishing your four year degree?

Ever since I found out about the academy, which was sadly not too long ago. I had my heart set on going. And its not just because its prestigious or anything like that. I've looked at countless websites, and articles, and I just have a strong feeling like I need to be there. There is just something about the commitment, challenge and honor in it all. It would make me feel very happy and accomplished to be apart of all that. The ROTC rout is an option now, but I'll be in the reserves anyway, so I figured I might as well apply and see. And I'll be applying to other schools as well, after my stint at VF, or NMMU, USAFA will just be my first pick.

Your attitude, courage and perseverance, will drive you to your goal. From what you have written so far, you appear to have the confidence and strength to achieve your goal of appointment.
The road to the academy is a long, arduous road but half and more of the battle is already won by your attitude and courage to not take "no" for an answer. You keep up the attitude and the best of luck to you.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I hope that this will all work out. I know that I have a very slim chance at getting in the way I stand now, but I am working very diligently to improve myself. Because I know that I can do it, I just need someone else to see it as well.

You've got a great attitude!
I agree about re-taking the SAT. And make sure that you talk to the ALO in your area so that you get the straight scoop on anything else you have to do to make this happen!

My son completed the Service Academy Prep program at Valley Forge. But it was just one year. It certainly challenged his commitment. Here's the link to VF's info page for the program: Service Academy Congratulations on being focused and dedicated. These traits will serve you well in anything you do!
