Parents' Weekend "Meet and Greet" Opps For USAFA Community (POLL)

There are several suggestions for Parents Weekend. Let me know what y'all want to do. (You can pick more than one option)

1. Meet and Greet Thursday night at a restaurant

2. Game Day Tailgate Party

3. Group tickets for the game

4. Monday evening together so we can all laugh and cry together at a restaurant:cry2

5. No meeting, I already have enough to do

Note when you vote on this poll above, You have more than one choice when voting. We may do more than one thing like Tailgate and football game group ticket or tailgate and dinner...etc so let us know in the reply area your thoughts and your 1st and 2nd choice.

For the Newbie parents and 2013 cadets, Cadets are allowed to go to other tailgates and will usually wonder around with parents if you have other tailgates to go to like team tailgate, sponcer family tailgates, Colorado Parents club tailgate (a good one) etc.... The cadets just need to at least check in to their Squadron tailgate 1st.

Our daily reminder that if you have not voted and you are going to parents weekend, Please vote. . The tailgate will be for entire community. including cadets. So cadets you should vote if you like the idea of stopping by with your family, and meeting other community members at a USAFA community tailgate.

As far as game day goes, keep in mind that many of the local parents' clubs also get group tickets together for the PW football game and a few might even have their own tailgates. Plus, the cadets are required to go to their squadron tailgates before the game, so are they allowed to stop in at others? We enjoyed going to our son's squadron tailgate with him last year...got to meet some of his friends and their parents.

I agree Sunshine, especially for the class of 2013! Our son was required to be at his squadron's tailgate and did not feel inclined to ask to leave. And you're right, it was great to meet the other cadets in his squadron that he would be spending the next year with, and just enjoy their interaction. I guess the important thing to me was that I wanted to be wherever he needed to be because it seemed so long since we had seen him and a weekend seems so short. That's why the Monday night meeting got my vote! By that time we'll all have so much to talk about and not be giving up a minute with our cadet.

So who cooks or where does the food come from that is at the Squadron's tailgate party? I for sure would want to go to that if that is where our son had to be (granted that parents are welcome).

Last year our son's squadron specifically invited parents and families along for the squadron tailgate, since it was Parents' Weekend. Each squadron apparently has its own budget for things like this, and upperclassmen were happily grilling burgers and hot dogs while wearing ski goggles to keep the smoke out of their eyes! All we did was show up by the time our son had to officially sign in.

There's usually a "donation" can, too. I'm sure the squadron appreciates having the parents contribution!

The Cadets are free to go to other tailgate after they check in to their squadron tail gate, so that is not an issue. They have to be there at the start of the tailgate which is 3-4 hours before the game.

Most squadrons invite the families to join them for bbq during the tailgate and request donations. I think what most cadet and families do is spend 1st 30 minutes - 1hr with the squadron tailgate and then go to other tailgates they have been invited to. You will see cadets all over the tailgate area that is outside the squadron tailgate.

Also there is an open house BBQ that most squadrons have on Friday which is great way to meet other Parents in Cadets squadron and your cadets new buddies. So there will be plenty of opportunities to be with your cadets squadron and will not be missing anything if you decide to check out other tailgates. I am sure Our tailgate, if we have one, will be fairly low key and will be like a drop in Meet and greet with some finger food?? We have a spot temporarily reserved in the tailgate area for our community for in case we decide to do this. I hope that helps?

As was stated in a previous post, many Parents Clubs purchase group tickets and sit together. Ours does that and we already have ou tickets for the game. Regarding the tailgate, Jeremy's squadron just said for him to show his face and then he could do what he wanted until the afternoon football formation. We visited other squadrons and also his sponsor as they a party going on also. I am amenable to anything for PW; this year, we should have plenty of time to mingle....

Hey Jerri,

You may want to check this thread. Does anyone have/know the rules for prep students who are friends with cadets

It does a good job of answering the question of Fraternization betweent Cadets and Preppies. If you have any other qeustion about this, you may want to post in that thread as it is being monitor by former Preppie parents and former Preppies. I hope that helps.

This is info still leaves Preppie Parents the option of Thursday night or Monday night and would give Cadet parents and Preppie Parests that go to those events an opportunity to meet each other. So preppie parents please do vote your choices.
