Default What is the Difference Between Forums, Social Groups, Blogs, etc..

Groups are different than the discussion forums in that they are very specific to individual group created where as the Forums of discussion are for The entire USAFA community and visitors (if public).

The Forums is the heart of this website and the site uses a Forum Platform application for the creation and ADmin of the entire site.

Most important information, question for the entire community, and support from upper class parents and cadets, and those who have gone before you, will come from the forums discussions. Go to the Forum home, scroll down and pick any USAFA related Forum category. Click on it and scroll through some of the important threads of discussion, just so you can have and idea of all that there is already on this site.

All your question can be answered just by searching the forums and if you can't find the answer feel free to post in any forum and you will get a quick answer from the community members eager to help the Newbies to the site and the USAFA community. Don't be afraid if you post in the wrong forum, you will just give the moderators something to do and they will gladly move it to the proper forum. It Does not matter what forum you post a New Thread for discussion, because everyone sees all new threads and posts when they click on their "Unread Posts". under welcome box.

Another thing different about the Groups is that when you join a group, You are automaticaly subscribed to the group and you will be notified by email whenever there is a new posting in your group. This allows you to go back to the social group and read through the discussion and maybe add your own comments.

IN the Forums you have to manually subscribe to the Forums or the topic of discussion if you want to be notified by email. Unless you are the creator of the thread. This is an imporant difference and many people miss really important and good discusion in the forums because they are not aware of this. Because of all the thousands of discussion created by a large community like ours you will not want to be subscribe to all the forums automatically. You would be swamped with emails. If you are a person that like to receive Email notifications in from some of theForums You can manual Subscribe to the individual Forum or thread within a forum. Go to the Forum home page and scroll down for to the "Site FAQ" Forum for tutorials on how to do this. Here is a link where the "Site FAQ" Forum is found: Website Help/Feedback - USAFA Community You can find this link by going to Forum home > The USAFAcommunity Website - USAFA Community >.

If you look up above this thread, you will see the line/path of links that take you to each individual thread of discussion. You can use that line of links as a way to get back to the bigger picture of the site. A great way to learn how to navigate any site that has millions of pages of content.

The best way to participate in the forums is to login in several times a week and click on "Unread Possts" in the Welcome box under your username and also click todays posts to see all posts, posted just in the last 24 hours.

To post in the forums, Go to the Forum home page and look through all the catagories of forums
to see which forum best fits you topic of discussion and then go to that forum to create a thread.

Groups are becoming a big part of this site and will only become bigger as the platform is improved and promoted for all the outstanding benefits for participating in the groups. The Preppie Parents and the Class of 2014 parents and Candidates are seeing how beneficial it is to have their own place on this website. What is nice about having the Class Group on the USAFAcommunity website is you can go to the forums to get support from the over 1600 (over 1200 Parents) community members on the site that are eager to help. You will find all the support, information and social interaction you need on this site and it will only get better in months to come. Go to this link to find more info about Social Groups: http://www.usafacommunity.com/forum/social-groups-info/

Watch for some major changes and face lift in the next few months as the Forum Platform application is Updated to the major upgrade. It will take some time and effort to get our site ready for this upgrade but it will be worth it and you will notice some major, positive changes as a result of this upgrade.

Please feel free to reply to this post if you have any questions or comments. Thanks again for your participation. A site like this only exist when the members contribute content by posting new threads of discussion with info, questions, and support so that we all can benefit. So.... "Don't be a Stranger (Lurker)" .. Step out of your comfort zone and participate by posting! We want to get to know you.

Enjoy your Community Website
